Did anyone else get the letter about Haringey's group buying scheme for solar panels? It seems like a good idea and I'm interested, but wondered if anyone cleverer and with a better knowledge of the subject can see drawbacks that I can't. Photo of the letter is attached.

And apologies if this has been on HoL in the past
Yes we got the letter over the weekend. I'd be really interested but not sure if they are suitable for ladder houses as we have so much flat roof. Has anyone got any solar panels already on the ladder?
I have solar panels on a Ladder roof. Works really well as south facing. Flat roof not an issue as they are on frames.
we got the letter, too, and are also very interested.
i looked into it a few years ago, a friend in Devopn had them done, and was earning money from the National Grid rather than paying for electricity! unfortnately the company they used didn't bother coming back to me with any quotes, so i'm rather pleased about this scheme.
Us too - I think we will sign up and see what they say. We only have a small house with not much roof and we face east (we would not want them at the front of the house). I don't think panel are that cheap, but might be worth it if we keep getting weather like this last month, given our house doubles as an oven.
I've signed up, anyway – www.haringey.gov.uk/solar-together-london
Apparently you need to have an EPC rating of D or better. I think it's quite easy to achieve a significant improvement in the rating with small measures; a bit of loft insulation for £60 or insulating a few doors should make a big difference.
This is a good time to do it as the Tories look likely to scrap what remains of the feed-in tariff scheme next April.
Anyone know if it's possible if you already have a loft conversion with veluxes at front and dormer at the back?
Yes, we've just had it done - on the sloped part of the roof the Veluxes will affect the number of panels that can be installed, on the flat portion they will need to mount the panels on special stands which are either screwed into the roof or (if it is strong enough) weighed down.
We managed to fit 10 panels on our house in the Gardens (5 on the slope & 5 on the flat roof), and we went for the most efficient ones available so the system is 3.6 kW.
Thanks. I think it's the EPC rating that will be our downfall. Seem to recall it was pretty shocking when we bought the house and even the "potential" rating was quite high, though I suppose it could have improved with the loft conversion.
Buying led light bulbs is worth about five points... Don't despair
"On 22 August an auction will be held where pre-vetted installers submit their lowest prices." <- that always works out well.
Dutch auctions can work for single issue small scale things like this. NHS/prison/welfare assessment stuff (where you have human beings and their annoying habit of having different needs) is in a different ballpark though!
