Not least because I am terrified of them, I have noticed that the flock of pigeons that circle the Green Lanes end of Pemberton Road getting bigger. I consider them to be as bad as rats and they leave a lot of droppings on the pavement and surrounding houses. Also, there has been more than a few incidents of me screaming as they fly too close. Any advice to help us get rid of them?

I know I keep seeing them doing that but don't know how to ask them to stop. Maybe a polite letter?
There was someone who regularly put seed down early in the morning at the bottom of Warham by the post office. Haven’t seen the debris for a while so they may have moved operations to Pemberton
Err, bad as rats?? They are worse than rats. They carry 8 pathogens that can be transferred to us folk and our kids. Poor Mr Rattus Norvegicus only carry one - its had a bad rap unfairly for years. And only 50% of rats carry Weil's disease.
The Council's Environmental Health team are required to investigate if someone feeds them and they can put a stop to it if you complain. If you can send the Council a pic of the restaurant feeding them that would help.
All animals, cats, dogs, humans carry pathogens. You are just as likely to catch something nasty from Tiddles or Towser because they live in close proximity to you ( some people apparently let their pets share their bed ) or from someone spitting in the street.
Some groups, such as highly-qualified veterinarians, say that pigeons present a minimal risk of infection: other groups say that pigeons are nature's biological warfare troops. The second group is made up, of course, of the pest eradication companies who want your money.
Why do we need to get rid of them? Pigeons are beautiful birds and part of London life. Live and let Live.
We’re talking feral pigeons here Lil, not the wood pigeons I love seeing in parks and gardens. See the link below and scroll down to Population Control
I've seen them doing laps, and doubt this is the case, but when I lived in Aus, they were racing pigeons. A guy who lived a few doors down had some, and they were in cages, and then he'd let them go, and they'd just fly around in formations like that doing laps for aaaages and then fly back down and go back in. Doubt anyone's breeding racing pigeons in the area though
