This was a wonderful read Hugh and beautifully written. The writing feels very ‘modern’ for 100 years ago.

It makes you realise how relatively recent all the changes were. But if we thought the pace of change here was dizzying during Victorian times, just look at what's happening in China and much of Asia now - stupefying!

Perhaps not everyone is aware of this site.. It gives very good OS comparisons from 1895 & the 1947-60 period with a satellite of about 2012/14. 1895 shows the first ten houses on Hewitt Road for instance.  http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/side-by-side/#zoom=17&lat=51.581...

I like the bits that said  ,,,, "you come into the Green Lanes with real green hedges and ditches on each side " .. REAL green hedges and hedges - WOW! . I wonder what was about at the time ..... and the .. "The venerable churchyard took you into the village of Hornsey". I think that is enough information to start calling Hornsey  - "Hornsey Village" ... that will add a few thousand to properties.

People do already, Renato. For my money, those days are past and it ain’t no village no more.
