Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have been trying without success to renew my parking permit online this week - I enter all the details and upload the required documents, then just get a message that 'an error has occurred' and told to try later. Has the system completely collapsed? I've tried three days in a row - what a waste of time! The council letter says I have to renew online, but their website offers a postal option - should I do this, as I still have time (luckily I started early, as I knew there had been problems)?

I'd post it and hope, Maddy.

My husband went to Wood Green library office and sort it out the same day, last Friday.

Think I'll try and sort it out in person, even though it means a trip to Wood Green - I don't particularly trust Royal Mail or Haringey Council to process the application in time (if at all - my last two attempts to contact government departments by post went mysteriously astray).

I have some day passes you can have if you need them to tide you over (should you go down the postal route and it gets delayed.)

we have also had a NIGHTMARE of a time getting this done. ringing the helpline has been absolutely pointless. the only way I managed to get in touch with them was on twitter. and even then... still not sorted. Good tip on the Library!

You need to get a job working for the council:

Hello, Mandy,

There is a fault in their system, so achieving anything on line is fruitless. The only way forward is to keep ringing them, so you can speak to an actual person, who can let you know where you stand. I had submitted my application, paid, received a confirmation number, but no permit. The person on the phone could see this clearly on the system and sent it out straightaway.

I suppose if you can’t get through, to the the office directly and deal with it face to face.

It’s a nuisance...I went through all this, and now my car has failed its MOT, it’s for the scrap heap, but I doubt if I will get reimbursed by Haringey Council...

Good luck with it.

Fiona

You can get a refund.

"Returning your permit

If you no longer need your permit or are no longer eligible for your permit you must return it to:

London Borough of Haringey
PO Box 55235
London
N22 9DF

We will send you a refund for the remaining full months. If we have had to cancel your permit because of fraud or misuse then you will not be eligible for a refund."

Of course I left my permit on the car I sent off to a new life, but still have the original email version.  They say you don't need this if you've lost it.  I got a form from the Cust Services when sorting a new permit. Paid from the date form received, so do it pronto.

Hi,

Whoever designed / programmed the webshite should be shot.

One reason for your problem could be that the size of the documents you have uploaded exceed the limit.

Yes the limit is explained - but it is not too clear, and if you do exceed the limit there is no warning - so you will go around in circles.

Apologies if you were aware of this

If you're still sorting this, if you go to one of the Customer Service centres - Wood Green or Tottnm library - you can get one on the day.  Take something to read. I hope you can do a renewal like this, you can deffo do it for a new car but see my annoying experience here. Take all your docs - log book, proof of address etc.

If the point of their new system is to encourage people to get rid of their cars, I'd say it's working really well. We are now seriously talking about getting rid of ours when the kids are a little older (and therefore require less stuff when being taken out).

The purpose of the whole system is taxation + fines (PCNs), under the guise of providing a parking service.

Even without your own car, Rachel, you will be overcharged for Visitors' Permits for friends and family who visit in their cars; or should you need the services of a plumber, painter, roofer, home help, babysitter etc.
