There’s been a nice family atmosphere this afternoon. Lots of children dancing around. But too much cheesy europop but hey. Worth popping down tomorrow. The outdoor garden is underneath some trees for shade and it’s free entry if you aren’t going in the tent - which no one is as the weather is great.

Agreed, it was nice when we went yesterday (though the "German market" consisting of just two stalls selling novelty hats was not what I was expecting). We sat outside for several hours with friends and it is a real nice atmosphere.

Ah yes, but on the write-up they mentioned trinkets, I was expecting something more like a Christmas market with handicraft and preserves etc.

Short of anything going seriously wrong tonight a pretty big success. The afternoon I was there saw lots of people coming in for a 2 pint stein then leaving again, a few groups in good spirits stayed longer. The event was well run with a family atmosphere and the weather was perfect. The location was good - they didn’t need more space- and the tress meant you had natural shade.
I am hoping that someone copies the model and brings a winter real ale festival to the common.

I wasn't grudging. I just had visions of it being full of city boys but it was much more low brow than that. A shame it wasn't better attended but I seriously doubt I put anyone off and didn't need my arm twisted too much.
