Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hello all,

I'd love to hear any thoughts about this. We've been quoted over £5k to remove paint from the front exterior of our house.

I'd much prefer it, but I guess repainting it in a different colour (it is currently dark red, which we don't like) would be much cheaper (I assume around £1k or less including sills etc).

But perhaps restoring the brickwork would be better long term?

Any experiences of either?

Thanks!

Simon

Thanks Billy. Yes it includes repointing and also all the other exterior paintwork (sills etc).

You're right - 5k is a lot for aesthetic work! But I was wondering if it is better maintenance-wise too - all the companies say that it is better for the bricks to breathe and that it saves the cost of repainting. But I suppose they would say that...

I would be grateful if you could send me the details of the person who restored your brickwork - I’ve been meaning to get quotes for our house to be stripped...

There are a number of roads where the brickwork has been ground back, and repointed, Ducket, Alison, Lausanne, off the top. Knock and ask for their guys to quote to see if it’s competitive, and get an idea of quality of workmanship, or any unforseable headaches.

On the one hand it’s good if the brick can breathe. On the other, the brickwork will need a clear protective treatment, as the face of the brick is removed.

Thanks all for your responses
Thanks that's very useful info. We have a quote from Jigsaw - he seemed good - and Evto are coming to do a quote too. But any other suggestions very welcome indeed!

Great, thanks very much for this
