Surprised it hasn’t been mentioned on here...
Since the ‘vegas’ circus has come and gone the common is absolutely destroyed. Do we know if the council plan on ‘making good’? It’s a right old mess. Surely any money they’ve made from renting the land has been nullified if they have to spend it all on tidying the land up again?!
im not in the landscape gardening industry, and this is some serious fag packet maths, but I can’t see the council getting much change back from £20k to sort out the mess...

Really don't want to be negative - but who is going to clean and maintain the toilet ?
The Council/Veolia can't keep the toilets at Chestnuts open for more than a week at a time.
Have they thought this through ?
( They don't seem to have the same problem in the " nicer " areas like Crouch End and Muswell Hill.
I wonder why. )
Any sort of toilet facility would be better than none. At least it might save the trees from ammonia poisoning. As it is, on a summer’s day, you can’t walk from our house to the tube without getting an inadvertant eyeful of some old tramp penis making ‘use’ of the foliage.
I did eavesdrop a bit as my dog was sniffing a tree, the Gaffer of the group was talking to a Council rep who told him that there have been a lot of complaints.
when I walked past a few minutes later the team had driven off.
i managed to catch up to the Council rep at the tube and asked him what was going on. He didn’t really want to speak to me but did say that the Circus people would be back tomorrow to start the repair on it. I explained it would take more than a van and shovels to put the situation right, in my opinion it needs landscaping and then shutting off from the public for a few months so it can have a chance to dry out and regrow. Doubtful this will happen because of the upcoming Bierfest.
It will be interesting to follow the Circus ‘repair” job though in the next few days.
We went past today when the Circus van was there and saw a group of workers making half-hearted attempts at trying to flatten the mud with shovels. Totally pointless exercise. It needs professional landscaping and, as you say, months to dry out properly. Worst still, the stench of sewerage/waste/god knows what coming off the mud is something else. We were actually passing to catch the bus to London Zoo and none of the animal enclosures were anywhere near as 'ripe' as the common currently is!
Out of interest I'm trying to find out what contractual protection is made when the Common is hired out https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/contractual_measures_to_protect
I like seeing the circus in town but it could have been planned and managed far better. Not sure what the associated issues are though.
It is a disgrace. The park's been ruined. But we only have to look at Finsbury Park to get a sense of the regard locals feelings are taken into when there's money to be made. Good luck with the beerfest though, eh? The space is unusable.
