New cycling infrastructure has been installed on the bridge on Wightman Rd. It's not much, but hopefully this is just a start, maybe they will get rid of some of the car parking in the area at the same time.

I spotted some spray-painted markings there last week and wondered what might be about to happen, I'm actually quite impressed with the result. However from the brief glimpse I got of it this morning it looked like there's a gap in the armadillos at the apex of the corner which is a bit unfortunate.
Also unfortunate was the weather on its inaugural morning. It looked pretty icy at 8am, I stayed well clear.
Yes, ironically the segregated path was covered in icy patches. it's a bit wider as well.
Twice as wide I'd say, and now wide enough that prudent vehicle drivers do slow down - lest they get too close to oncoming vehicles. Win-win. The gap at the apex, given the funnelling effect of the initial post and the armadillos beforehand, hopefully won't be significant.
As I was saying. Just look at how much more a vehicle could - and inevitably will - encroach into the cycle lane.
It wouldn't surprise me if this was done deliberately, with the thought that an armadillo there would be dangerous for drivers because many are so inept they'd hit it. As is often the case with these things, the illusion of safety takes precedence over the reality.
I'd say that that is downright dangerous for motorbikes. Like cyclists, we're often forced to move over by bully drivers and could easily clip one of those humps. But we're not allowed in that lane so our safety is being ignored.
I get forced to move over by drivers who have overtaken me only to realise that I am going under 20mph because of a vehicle in front of me. I thought it was because there was an assumption that cyclists are slow but to hear it is done to motorcyclists gives me more reason to want front and rear cameras.
Just around the corner from this is often a queue for the roundabout anyway. I think I might just ignore this piece of cycling infrastructure.
It's not mandatory so you are allowed to use it if you have to. (From driving test tips) "... a broken whit line running down the right side. This advisory marking tells vehicles that they should not drive or park in the cycle lane unless absolutely necessary." Watch out for the bollards which suddenly appear around the corner though!
