Why you shouldn't put pizza boxes in the recycling bin

I didn't know this, maybe everyone else did, but it appears that despite being made of cardboard, you shouldn't put pizza boxes in the recycling bin as the grease from your pizza contaminates the box.

Personally I don't think recycling should be a borough-controlled service, but a nationally run one. There are too many anomalies about what can be recycled where - as Alan says, even if you want to do the right thing it's hard to find out what that is!

I always remember reading this article in Time Out years ago and quote it to people a lot...

The guy who manages the centre our rubbish goes to say: When in doubt about whether something can be recycled, his advice is do chuck it in the sack. If it’s not, they’ll fish it out.
