Well, bonfire night you can explain the history of, Easter has Pagan origins that you can tell kids about - even 'santa' has a historical foundation in bishop myra, but how is is 'fun' to tell kids that dead people can walk about?

Well if you want historical significance Halloween's roots are from the Celtic festival of samhain. My understanding is that dressing up in costume was to scare the spirits that were able to cross over to the living world so they didn't scare the living. There is loads of articles online about the historical significance of Halloween if you are interested. Trick or treat apparently goes back to children and poorer people dressing up and going door to door asking for food in exchange for prayers and songs. It's a tradition, I'd you don't like it you don't have to be involved. The first year we were here nobody knocked at first as I didn't put a pumpkin out. Sometimes it's okay for children just to have fun, not everything has to have a moral, and they know to only knock on the doors of those taking part as they look for the pumpkins with their parents.

Well I haven’t got kids but always make sure I have a stash of sweats and fruit in for them. On the ladder, All good fun
