Hi all, does anyone know a reasonable/free service for recycling an old washing machine locally? Ideally without having to haul the thing out onto the street...?

The council one used to be free. It's now £25.00
Thanks all but these are all kerbside. I don't fancy dragging my machine up 5/6 stairs to the door. Any suggestions?
Are you getting a replacement? Usually the company that delivers the new one can take away the old one, for free or a fee. Certainly Hornsey Appliances on Wightman road took mine away for free (and delivered the new one on the day I bought it!)
Long story but they couldn't take away the old one because it was hard wired. Had to get an electrician to fit a plug and am now looking for a sensible way to get the old one taken away. Have been quoted £70 by someone which I might begrudgingly accept.
Try asking Hornsey Appliances, they are a friendly family run business and might find a use for the old machine for parts. Their call out fee is £35 so perhaps not much more to collect an unwanted machine.
Good shout, I'll try them. Thanks a lot!
If it still works, why not post it on freecycle....
I used Clearabee for the collection of a faulty lawn mover and they were brilliant.
Try a scrap merchant. I had an old cooker collected free of charge last November. They were really accommodating with regard to time etc but I did have it taken out to the front garden. I think they may have been prepared to come in and take it. I can't remember which one it was, but i found them by googling 'scrap merchant N4' and the person doing the telephone comms had an Irish accent. I think they were in Hackney.
