Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Dear all,

Hi! This is my first post here, and I hope it's an appropriate place to write about a new market, which starts on the 10th next to Finsbury park. Here are the details:

1) It's called Stroud Green Market
2) It'll be in the grounds of Stroud Green Primary, Woodstock road N43EX (actually though the main action will be on the Perth road side, opposite the Faltering Fullback)
3) It'll happen every Sunday, 10-2:30, starting 10th September (the weekend after the schools go back)
4) There will be all the farmers market staples, TOP quality & plenty of choice: veg, meat, fish, bread, flowers, local honey, amazing cheese, raw milk, eggs etc. Plenty of organic stuff but I've tried to arrange options for all sorts at different price levels.
5) On top of this there will be the fine foods/health food/deli items, whether this is locally made cake or fresh pasta, ferments, foreign/regional specialities etc

6) we have some really brilliant vegan & gluten-free stalls - all from local people as it happens
7) Good Coffee, HOT FOOD and drinks of all sorts including alcoholic
8) Finally, we really want there to be a good time for everyone with music, entertainment for families & children, benches & tables to hang out at, hopefully someone to fix your bike....

....and home delivery so you can buy as much as you like!

Please let me know what you think - I'm very receptive to ideas as it's really you lot who will make the market work or not - and do spread the word if it's something you're interested in.

Many thanks to all - I hope you can come either on the 10th or any other Sunday!

PS if it's appropriate will someone tell me how I can perhaps have this listed in the farmers market page of the "what's on" section? Cheers!

This sounds great! I hope it's a success and I look forward to visiting this when it opens! The location is a good one, you might want to put up a sign/chalk board in Finsbury Park near the railway bridge/Parkland walk pointing people that way on the day, as well as on Blackstock road.

Yes good idea! Thank you...

Looks interesting, but please make the links on the producers page clickable.

Thanks Rich - I'll work at it! I'm not a natural with websites...

What happened to the Harringey farmers market? Any chance we can get it back - would be ace and sure enough customs to make it worth while?

You mean the Harringay farmer's markets? We have "The Local Store" now and I can heartily recommend the burgers at Bun & Bar. All that market did was prove that there was demand for that kind of thing. Our houses all nearly doubled in value since and the person who started it was excoriated when they dared try the same thing on Tottenham Green.

Excoriated? Doesn't she now run that market really successfully?

I totally miss the Harringay Market. So many traders got their start there and went on to great things.

Burgers at B+B can't compare to Burger Bear or Bleeker. Coffee van was ace. Batch brownies were ace.

Best of luck to the Stroud Green Market.

I really miss the katsu curry stall...

The Alley Katsu guys can now be found here: https://m.facebook.com/Alley-katsu-336979749680747/?locale2=en_GB

Jessica really did a phenomenal job in terms of the street food on offer at the old Harringay Market, between the katsu, salt beef bagels, wood fired pizza, soda and burger stands, all of which have subsequently gone onto great things.
Orrrr we could support this new market. Clearly a mountain of effort has gone into setting it up. It's not far away.

Agree. Farmers markets seem to struggle to last long, so one covering the general Finsbury Park/Harringay area should be sufficient. I wish this one much success!
