L P Summers at 73 Turnpike Lanes is another image by their near-neighbour Charles Casbon.
Lewis Patrick and his wife Ankorah moved in to 73 Turnpike Lane in about 1890. They lived above the shop, initially renting a floor out to schoolmaster, William Rennie, his wife Edith and their two young children.
The couple had married in the United States in 1883 and there is a record of Ankorah, arriving the US at about that time. So I am assuming that Lewis was American.
Lewis and Ankorah were described in the census of 1891 as umbrella and baby linen manufacturers. They also had a shop at 14 The Parade in Stroud Green Road.
Lewis died in the early Spring of 1899. Ankorah carried in the business. moving it and her home up to 93 Turnpike Lane in about 1905, where she stayed for at least another ten years, still trading under her husband's name. By 1920, the shop was trading as Thomas Ward, Umbrella Manufacturer.
