Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I found this robbery and stabbing on the wonderful Old Bailey archive online. (I hope you haven't referenced it previously)

Hi Hugh; no never posted before and very interesting. Thank you. This points to an occupant of Harringay House who has never before been known about. But it's mystifying. We know that Edward Chapman bought the house after Edward Gray's death in 1838. We have Chapman documented as living there in the 1840s and dying there in 1869. Burkes of 1862 lists him as Edward Chapman of Harringay House (the same date as the Old Bailey report you reference). So........hmm........

Angela, any ideas?

Yes, I did find a reference to the Newtons living there - iirc they were related to the Chapmans (and possibly linked to the Alexander family via business aka the old boy network). I'll have a look at what I've got.

Well spotted HughH!
