The Rolling Stones in 1963

Spent many nights in that top room ! But probably from only early 64 - 70. Friday nights were "our" night, Blues nights. Top club bands of the time, namely John Mayall's Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton/Peter Green, very early Fleetwood Mac, Animals, Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames, Zoot Money, black American blues men, very early Cream (Clapton, Bruce, Baker !!!), Paul Butterfield Blues Band, The Who, Steam Packet, Spencer Davis, Ten Years After to name just a few off the tip of my tongue. Loads more of them though...................as well as some real good local bands.
Used to get packed out. Entrance was through door on Seven Sisters I think, straight up some steepish steps, cloakroom (?) then turning left into double doors entering the smallish room at mid length. Stage to left (Green Lanes end) and bar to right corner. Took an age to get served (Watneys Red Barrel ?). And chucking out time was hazardous when the hoards attempted to negotiate the steep stairs down, the bouncers acting as shepherds to ease the crush.
Happy days of top musicians belting out their music at just an arms distance. For a few shillings admittance.
