Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
ZAC votes to leave (and so does Boris).
London mayoral elections are on May 5th. Zac Goldsmith has come out for voting to leave the EU. Sadiq Khan has decided he'd like to see the UK stay within the EU. A clear dividing line between these two candidates.
With the EU vote the following month this issue could end up being the deciding factor between the two candidates. Difficult to say how Londoners feel about the EU but probably more than anywhere else within the UK (apart from Scotland) the majority of the city's inhabitants are for staying within the European Union.
If this is the case then Sadiq is our next mayor ... unless voters (who bother to turn up at their polling station) think other issues will loom larger in their minds as they enter the polling booths.

Or stay in and have TTIP imposed which will erode any employment rights seen as anti-competitive.

I'm pretty sure if we leave the EU both they and the US will require us to sign something in return for access to their markets, and we'll be negotiating from a much weaker position. The TTIP stinks but I don't think leaving the EU will protect us from rapacious transnationals.

I think you're right about Johnson's declaration. He obviously has made the judgement that there will be a win for the Out vote and has positioned himself to be a good place in the party, ready for the backlash against Cameron. As the Out campaign has splintered it will be interesting to see which one of the three groups he'll align himself with.

I'm sure he is but I don't think that's the primary motivation behind his declaration.

If Boris wants to be Tory leader (and therefore Prime Minister) when Cameron steps down, he needs to win the votes of Tory party members, who are majority euro-sceptic.
Some commentators are suggesting that Boris's ideal outcome is a vote to remain (as leave would cause massive damage to the City of London, amongst other things), followed by his election as Tory leader by those eurosceptic activists.

We all see leaving the EU as a licence to make more money, with less red tape and fewer ridiculous restrictions on what we can and can't do.
I guess this is yet another in the long series of unfunny jokes from that particular user.

Laura Tory Kuenssberg that impartial Political Editor of BBC News reckons Boris maybe calculating that Cameron will win the referendum but, then be able to position himself against Osborne for the Tory leadership race as a 'eurosceptic'.
Stephen, London's population is largely more youthful of course ( http://www.londonmapper.org.uk/megacity-london/ ) so not so many John's about as in the shires :) Youth tend to be more outward looking.

That's a rather stereotypical view of age. The people who voted in favour in the original referendum are now in their sixties or older

Matt, I agree in as much that if only the under 60s were allowed to vote, a 'yes' result would be more likely.
I've also pondered as to whether the over 60s should even be allowed to vote at all. It's not their future that they are deciding. Turning the clock back was never a good idea and anyway, they've had their turn. Just recently got back from Málaga, where thousands of senior Brits now reside. More Brits than any other EU residents have taken the advantage to live in other EU countries, including the Prince of Wales, who owns 'a small place' in Romania. Many have a lot to loose, including health insurance.
Luckily, I personally won't be too much affected if a Brexit happens. But I feel quite sorry, for the hundreds of thousands of Brits who will. Tories love to have the freedom to move capital, but not people. Money before People. That about sums up the stoopid nationalistic bravado that they and most of their supporters continually spew out.
