Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
You Wait Ages for a Market..then...........
.....two come along at once.
So what have we done to deserve this?
Harringay Market is being reborn this week based at the Kurdish Centre in the Gardens, then a week later a new market is opening up in Harringay Market's first home.
Let's not even mention another exciting foodie arrival due in the hood in the coming months.

North Harringay Primary School has a website and here's how the school announced the market in its Newsletter on 10 September.
Wouldn't it be sensible - and courteous - to direct factual and other queries to the Headteacher and Chair of Governors? At least in the first instance.
Or is it really better to speculate online?

Nope. I'm simply drawing attention to the school's newsletter which I googled.
And also repeating a suggestion I made before. That if people have questions, niggles or concerns about something a local school does - or any local organisation, come to that - it's usually a good idea to contact them and ask. Tell them what's on your mind. (I tend to use the phrase: "going through the front door".)
If someone's uncomfortable about doing that, there's often an intermediary they can ask to help.
Apart from headteachers and other staff reps, the members of Governing Bodies are volunteers. It's another way of being active in the community. And it often takes up a huge slice of time and can be difficult and sometimes stressful.
Maybe Abster, you're a school governor and know all about this. But if not, then I'm saying no more than talk to; and not just post online about.

Wow some very vicious comments on here,although I can see that some of them have been removed.
Wonder what would happen if someone dared to put negative comment about Harringay Market on here, hmmm
Anyway, I just hope that whoever is behind Falkland Road Market will not be discouraged by nonsense like this. There are people that like the idea and will support it.
I live very locally, my son goes to NHP and am ver happy with the opening of the market.

Hanna, I'm not sure what your intended meaning is, but the casual reader may conclude that you are suggesting that site admin have been editing comments on this thread to favour Harringay Market.
So that there is no confusion, let me clarify. With busy lives, we don't have time to actively moderate the site and so only edit if we happen to notice an issue or, more usually, when we have something brought to our attention. Only comments that infringe our house rules are moderated. Whether the issue is political, commercial or anything else, moderation decisions are never made to support one side of a debate against another and I can offer categoric assurance that this did not happen on this occasion.
As the thread stands only one sentence remains moderated by us (and that is clearly marked). Any other edits were made by the comment authors. In total we made three moderation edits. None of them were ones which you would judge to have been in protection of the interests of Harringay Market.

It would be a good idea to have a way of showing that people had made comments that were deleted (ie. a whole reply has been taken off and not just had an existing reply edited). Either by themselves or moderators.

I have read this thread and am compelled to reply as I don't understand why these comments have to be so negative and personal. We should be supporting and congratulating the original Harringay Market for bringing us a market in the first place and for persevering through the tough times when footfall was low. It is a shame that NHP, from the face of it, seem to have undercut the original Harringay Market and its traders by having a market on the same day and time and of course by not allowing the market to continue from it's premises. Surely there must be a way for both markets to work together, increasing the chance of successfully co-existing. I would suggest that NHP get in touch with the Harringay Market and both markets try to work out a plan. My concern is that the area is too small to support two markets, I am afraid and we know that from the low numbers of customers at the old market especially over winter. Splitting the customer base will just result in neither being successful and both closing down unless both markets can work together. For those who have made comments with personal attacks please can we stop as this is immature, nasty and not conducive for an inclusive community.

Wow. Don't people get their knickers in a twist. It's a market in a school playground. I'm sure they are not going for world domination! From what I can make out it's a community project with perhaps the possibility of making a few (much needed) bob for the school. why not. Stop speculating. Live and let Live. I wish you every success and look forward to it. Well done.

I think a disclosure of interests by the posters would be helpful to determine any conflicts of interest/full transparency.
