Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Wood Green, the Animals Charity, is planning to close its base in Lordship Lane.

The centre was originally opened in 1924 when its founder Louisa Snow realised that there was the growing number of abandoned and injured animals seen on the streets of London following WWI.

There's a petition to keep it open on the local MP Catherine West's website: https://www.catherinewest.org.uk/save-wood-green-animal-shelter/

Yes, I intentionally didn't link to that. I'm completely unconvinced that it's an appropriate reaction from an MP to what was no doubt a painful decision taken by the charity for, I imagine, operational reasons.

From here

As part of our ongoing efforts to help more pets and people, in an ever-changing world, and make the charity as impactful and cost-efficient as it can be, we recently completed a year-long assessment of our three rehoming sites. We concluded that they all need significant investment that would come at an enormous cost to the charity, but continued investment in the current structure would not increase the number of pets and people we can help.

For this reason, we will be focusing our efforts on our Godmanchester centre, building a new £2 million cattery in 2021 and developing more scalable services that will allow us to help even more pets and people. To enable this, we have made the decision to close our two satellite rehoming centres: London& in March this year and Heydon n 2021 (following the opening of the new cattery at the Godmanchester centre).

We wholeheartedly understand that these closures will be saddening for many. The support for London and Heydon over the years is deeply appreciated, but they are sadly not considered fit to deliver our vision for the future. This was not an easy decision to make, but we must ensure that the generous donations of our supporters are used efficiently.

They’re actually selling the property to developers so it affects the local community in multiple ways, beyond losing the services of the charity, which is bad in itself for people and animals who rely on this service.

If they do not have the Funds to run Services. And someone offers them the Right price they have to take best offer

To keep other Services running

I hope they aell to who ever pays them the most money

Very sad loss to the community but also makes total sense and fingers crossed they get to do what they want and need to do

From a sad animal lover

Such a good Charity, sad they are closing, all the best with the Decision they are taking, sure it is not an easy one
