Whitewebbs saved from development by Spurs
On Monday, 27 July, a judgement from the High Court confirmed that it will quash the planning permission for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club to build a Football Academy at the site of the former Whitewebbs Park Golf Club.
The Leader of Enfield Council, Cllr Alessandro Georgiou, has welcomed the announcement, having pledged to protect Whitewebbs Park for future generations.

Here's the BBC's account, with a headline that fails to capture the environmental aspect.
North of the border, this has been a huge open-spaces issue.
Enfield Council's previous and misguided Approval for development in the public park, occurred while under Labour control (2010–2026).
The 2026 local elections led to no overall control, but with the Enfield Conservatives as the largest Council Group.
In May, new Leader Cllr Alessandro Georgiou pledged not to sign the lease and withdrew the previous Administration's legal defence. Bravo Alessandro. That's what leadership looks like!

Parks & Labour: a footnote
I heard that some years ago, a member of the local Labour Party advocated the building of a car park over the southern part of Finsbury Park for the benefit of Arsenal supporters. Although a previous Haringey Labour Leader (Claire Kober) said in a public meeting that she had considered "privatising" our park, it is not known whether she entertained any car-park proposal from within her Party.
I hope that under new management, our council can accord a higher priority to the environment.
