Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Strava are using the combined data-set from cyclists using their app to build a map of which routes are most commonly used.

It would be nice if investment in cycling infrastructure could be targeted towards the most popular routes!

Hmm I'm not sure I want my cycling options dependant on the behaviour of Stravaclists! It has a place as a sports/leisure toy but it's everything I despair of in everyday utility cycling.

Strava claim that in urban areas nearly one half of users are commuters, but I agree that the data will be skewed.

Oh I know it's used by plenty of commuters, it's just they tend to be the ones who see their commute as some sort of time trial or race training, whereas I see mine as an opportunity to enjoy the city and interact pleasantly with others.

I'd never heard of Strava before this, but from a brief glance some of their busy routes do match the London Cycle Network routes, e.g. route 7 passing Arsenal tube & across the inner ring road just west of Angel.

See http://www.cyclestreets.net/

But I would agree that this app is unlikely to produce very representative data....
