Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Party politics aside, the new Clegg-Cam cabinet apparently will have only one, or possibly two women in it. Of course, when the important jobs have to be divided up between parties they are given to the men in suits.
There are 139 women MPs in this parliament, that's over a fifth and a record number - there should definitely be more in top jobs. I've been listening to the radio all morning and haven't heard a single mention of this glaring discrepancy.

Thanks for your contribution Narendra. However, that's a pretty racy accusation which we absolutely refute.

It's true that David Lammy has been criticised on the site, but he's the constituency MP so you's expect that. I think any criticism levelled at him has been levelled at many MPs, particularly at this time when MPs have been coming under fire.

No councillor has been singled out for undue criticism. The site and some site members reviewed the records of all candidates, but this was done without regard to party, gender, race, religion or anything else.

We do not understand your criticism. To make terrible accusations like that, you will have to substantiate them with evidence.

PS: Are you the Narendra Makanji who's an ex-Labour councillor?
I must admit Narendra, that is an ill thought out post with incredibly lame excuses. If someone doesn't support a black or ethnic candidate then they're racist or it could possibly be that they think there are better people to do the job, is that allowed?

Well I slagged off Tristram Hunt and Carolyn Alexander too, so I must be sexist and a toffist as well!
The logic of this is that one can never criticise BME representatives because they either can never be wrong or are above criticism. I for one couldn't care less what race someone was: its what they say and how they behave that matters.

I would question the effectiveness of David Lammy's feeble proposals on gambling reform, irrespective of whether he was white, grey or pink. This is not "slagging off". It''s legitimate. I believe that even BME members can make mistakes and get it wrong.

Haringey Council is currently before the Court of Appeal, defending against the claim that they failed to discharge their obligations under Section 71 of the Race Relations Act.

Race relations is something that Haringey pays lip service to; picking and choosing when they take it seriously. "Racist" is often an insult that is wielded by majority group Members of all colours – for purely political purposes.
Looks like my first post on HoL has touched a nerve!

For the record, it is the former Councillor - stood down after 24 years of service- in 2006 and have been a relatively passive observer since.

Its not an imposter or a pseudonym like Site Admin or Birdy Too.

As for Clive Carter's link implying that women politicians belong in the kitchen- well, its beneath contempt!
Ah, mmm, our refuting false accusations is certainly suggestive of touching a nerve. (Sounds like you'd have fit right in as the witches got dunked at the village pond).

Nonetheless we thank you for your latest contribution. It helps to unpack the basis of your accusation and to get the measure of the individual who made them.
Only testing for humourlessness, Narendra! (dare I ask why you refer to yourself in the third person?)

Those with a degree of subtlety might have noticed that Kitchen Cabinet refers to unofficial advisers consulted by a leader in parallel with the official ("parlour") Cabinet. Sorry I just earn your contempt rather than a smile. For the record, not only did I vote for the well-known woman Lynne Featherstone for MP – I would also have been happy to see her in the Cabinet, possibly more so than others.

Once again, its not whether someone's male or female, black or white (or even party allegiance): its their character, their thinking and their personal qualities that counts.
Then you may be interested to know that the TUC's is launching a local campaign to get Lynne Featherstone into a government position. This information was given to be via Twitter by well known bearded socialist Keith Flett before anyone starts thinking that I have some hotline to LibDem HQ.

To be honest Clive, I'm beginning to wonder where the laughs have all gone as well...
I TRUST that Narendra Makanji is every bit as pleased as I am to see that well-known woman Lynne Featherstone MP is to be part of the government.

Not only is another woman in part of government, but in the very area that is the topic of this thread: equalities (where she will be Under Secretary).

Having a sense of good humour will be an valuable attribute in this high political post and I know that fortunately Lynne F does possess one of those. It's a quality not universally shared, of course; Gordon had one, but it wasn't always to the fore. (Apart from other more positive attributes, I'd like to believe that Lynne does not make snap judgements, nor toss out wild accusations nor gratuitous insults).

I'd like to think that Dave was prompted to appoint Lynne after reading this HoL thread!
I TRUST that Narendra Makanji is every bit as pleased as I am to see that well-known woman Lynne Featherstone MP is to be part of the government.

Yes, I do welcome her appointment and would want her to be successful in her own terms.
"Its not an imposter or a pseudonym like Site Admin or Birdy Too"

That is what I am known as Narendra (Birdy), apologies if you don't approve.

I'd rather read a post with some credibility by someone with a nickname or 'pseudonym' rather than your previous post by someone who is suppose to be legitimate.

Can you back any of your wild accusations up?
Thank goodness you are no-longer an elected representative of a senior figure within the Whittington NHS Trust
only 22 out of 57 councillors are women

This statistic is completely meaningless without knowing the number of men and women actually standing (in winnable seats). In fact it borders on trolling.

Tottenham constituency returned a Black MP because he was selected by the Labour party, not because we're so right on that we all voted for him no matter what (there were plenty of other Black men to choose from).

I think the two main political parties should shoulder any responsibility when it comes to a good mix of councillors, not we voters.

THIS IS NOT OUR FAULT!!!!!
