Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Want to know when my house was built(Langham Road). I think around the same time as the Ladder etc which I think was just before 1900?

Have you got a copy of your deeds. It will say on there I think, and if you have the old ones then you will have everything you need.

The 1896 map shows that some of Carlingford Road had been built but no part of Langham Road.  The 1913-14 map shows all of the houses in Langham Road have been built.

If you don't have the deeds you could check the census for 1901 and for 1911 to see whether your house had been occupied.  I did this for a friend in Graham Road whose house proved not to have existed in 1901 but was there in 1911.By contrast, many houses in the ladder were occupied at the 1891 census and just over half of the ladder streets were shown as built up on the 1896 map.

Langham Road appears in both the 1901 and the 1911 census - I can check for you if you'd like (PM me your house number)

You can search old Ordnance Survey maps on the National Library of Scotland website (it covers maps of England). Go to http://maps.nls.uk/os/ and scroll down to Map Series - England, Wales and Great Britain. You can then zoom into a map to find sometimes detailed maps of your area at different times.
