Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I took a blender back to Argos today that I'd had for about 7 or 8 months. The reason was because the handle on the jug was hollow and didn't come off but over the time...I've used it daily for milk-shakes...it's gradually got more and more bits inside. it looked very dirty! I expecting money back but I was only allowed to exchange it because the problem with it wasn't on the list of problems that class it as broken!

I knew I was in the right when I asked for money back but I didn't know what to say to back myself. Any tips, please?

Irrespective of whether you used it every day, the product should be of satisfactory quality - I'd say that bits in the handle makes it not fit for purpose. 

In general, I'd aim to read up on my rights before taking the product back ,and threaten escalation through the small claims court if you don't get what you want. Be prepared to follow through though - you may find its simply not worth your time if you have to spend hours on the phone chasing a refund.

A machine that is designed for food should be able to be kept clean.  I would imagine that’s a fundamental requirement of any food preparation equipment.  

If the design means that particles of the stuff being blended gather in inaccessible parts of the machine doesn’t that make it unfit for pupose?  Rather than this one particular machine being faulty isn’t the problem that the manufacturer has produced an article that cannot fulfill a basic function?

On frequency of use, if I make toast several times a day, everyday, that doesn’t mean I’m using the toaster for commercial purposes, just that my household like toast!

Was it not possible to clean the handle? Like with a bottle brush or similar? With daily use over 7 months it sounds like it's bound to get grubby.

It is not appropriate that you take this back for a full refund after using it every day for eight months. 

You have benefited substantially from using it. If you knew you were going to use it extensively, you should have bought a better quality one as used by caterers. Your judgement is shocking.

Cheap domestic blenders from Argos are not designed for such regular service. You get what you pay for. If she wanted a highly durable item she should have bought a better one at a higher cost, or one that is made for caterers to use. 

I can understand why some people don’t like to use this site.  If you don’t have any helpful advice, why offer a rather sneering opinion? Is it fun or something?

I think people who use this site like to see people like me standing up for fair play and justice.

I have heard of no one who dislikes this free site, as it is so useful. 

It's disappointing that you judge it is acceptable to use an electrical item every day for eight months and then to take it back to the shop for a full refund. How would you feel if you were the shopkeeper, Michael? Do you sell anything? 

You may have noticed that shops in the high street are struggling to make a profit. If we all returned items to a shop after using the item daily for eight months, shops would go out of business fast and manufacturers would stop making goods. 

Telling someone on this site what they should and shouldn’t do and having no idea of the facts behind the case is unhelpful.  I dislike the way some people on this site jump to instant judgements of others and seem to derive pleasure from sneering at them.  And yes, there are people who do not post on this site because of that attitude.  There have been past posts precisely about that.

Yes if it had a dangerous design fault, and it would be fair play to do so. Justice would be served in the form of a product recall.
