Water Bills...
Like many of you I have just got a message saying my water bill is available. I went to download it (actually because its useful for proof of address). I was not that bothered by the bill itself, figuring it is what it is. I have to admit to being a bit more than surprised to see just what it was, and how it has shot up over the last 5-6 years.
Below, a quick table showing what the bill was/is for any particular period, how that has changed year on year, and vs the 2020-21 bill period. It has doubled in 6 years! It looks like the 2023-2025 period re the offending years. Am I alone in not really knowing our water bills were being so precipitously raised?
I know the company is apparently struggling at the moment, but I am struggling to understand how come with such a generous increase in revenue.

Partly OFWAT holding down price increases over more than a decade, partly Thames Water paying shareholder dividends rather than investing.
The House of Commons Library assessed 'Economic Regulation of the Water Industry' only a month ago: report here . A chart on page 12 shows average water bills (adjusted for inflation) since privatisation in 1990: since 2008 bills have actually gone down when adjusted for inflation. Pages 25-30 address 'Performance & Challenges'. Their reports are well written and not over-long.
And Fergal Sharkey will have a lot to say!
