Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

To add to my post last week about the looming Compulsory Purchase Order for the Wards Corner site, I attach a form letter to make it easy for people to send in their objections to this unpopular move by LBH and Grainger.  It lists some of the reasons why demolition is the wrong choice.  You could just use this form; it's better if you have your own reasons but at this stage just getting loads of letters or emails in to the Planning Casework office is good.

The deadline is 21st October.

If you send in an objection, it would help us if you could copy it to us at   wardscornercommunity@riseup.net  .  Thank you.

On the expiry of the period, the confirming authority is required to hold a public inquiry, to arrange a hearing or, in certain circumstances, to use the written representations procedure. (Private hearings are very rarely used in practice.)  So we hope for the public enquiry, when we should be able to show that the public interest is better served by refusing demolition (and finally giving meaningful support to the market and specialist shops), than by allowing it. We are encouraged by the recent decision to overturn the CPO on Shepherds Bush market.

It's all the fault of the London Plan. The closer you are to a tube station the denser you can build. Dense can mean rabbit hutches or a tower, or both. There will be tens of millions of dollars at stake. Good luck but there will be nowhere else they can build this profitably.

Commuting is the enemy of GDP, it seems even a 10 minute walk to the tube station is too much!

This project could have been done differently. No one is denying that Tottenham needs meor ehomes and that higher densities are necessary.

It is the way in which this scheme was hatchwd and pushed thorugh by the Council an dthe Develoeprs that is obscene.

THERE ARE ALTERNATIVE WAYS OF ACHIEVING THE OBJECTIVE. Screaming extemely loud indeed!

This plan is not very profitable for Grainger as they have spent so much money to date and have nothing to show for it.

Our money.  That unexplained donation of £1.5million back in the day.  What's that worth now with inflation since, what was it, 2004?

They will get lifetime substantial profits from FagPacket Towers, they may as well back off now.

Hello

Ihave just sent an email to Barbara Wright at Haringey Council requesting more information about the public Inquiry, do you have any more information please. A public inquiry seems like a big deal to me, is that right?

Many thanks

Eileen

It is a big deal. It will be the beginning of the end of the ten year battle to save Wards Corner.  We have a strong chance of winning. It will be in March/April, in a local building probably the Town Hall or CoNEL. I'll start a new post to explain more.
