Wanted: tailor recommendation
Please could someone recommend a good tailor? I need a new suit that will last a long time, and I'd like to buy locally.

George the tailor, 50 Wightman Road, N4 1RU. 020 8341 3614. Just about opposite the entrance to Harringay station. Other reports on here say he doesn't do alterations but he DOES do full tailoring i.e. a suit.
From a satisfied customer a few years ago:
"George, the tailor on Wightman Road, made me a splendid sports jacket in the best traditions of old fashioned tailors".

A while ago now, George did do several straightforward alterations for me; all good.

I quite agree. George, who should have retired years ago but can't bear to give up working, is an institution. He made me a new jacket and a pair of fine trousers as recently as last summer. Voila:

GEORGE is old school and he enlightened me on correct trouser length ;-)
I can't help noticing that some rich blokes who could afford the finest tailors … whose trousers end-up part-way down their calves!
The highest ratio of wealth-to-hem is surely former PM Rishi Sunak, whose trousers often appeared in some photos almost half-way up his calf.
