UPVC Sash Windows
We recently had our front window replaced by these guys:
www.amesglass.com and they did a brilliant job. They are local and Simon was really helpful. When we brought our place it had aluminum windows in both the top and bottom front bays that were on their last legs. We did look at replacing them first with wooden sashes but then we discovered that we could install UPVC sashes for half the price and they look really great. The system also allows you to tilt the windows inwards to facilitate cleaning and locking devices. I would definitely recommend both the windows and Amesglass.

As Liz has said Ames Glass used to advertise with us. It's run by Simon who until recently, also used to own the Garden Ladder. I doubt that Simon would set anyone up to give fake reviews.
So, I think we ought to take Tanya at her word. Maybe ease up on those trigger fingers and, unless there is any evidence to the contrary, allow her review to be taken at face value.

Fair enough, the combination of fist time posters promoting a double glazing esque company was a little hard to swallow. Then the idea of encouraging others to install more plastic windows to the area was a little depressing. However sorry for being so cynical.

Well we'd all like beautiful wooden windows, but when a newly purchased property needs all the windows replacing because the shot seals invalidate the house insurance, wood can be prohibitively expensive. I did explain why I was 'first time' posting on this subject, just not quickly enough to avoid you calling me a bullsh*tter.
Anyway, thanks for welcoming me into the warm embrace of the Harringay Online community. It's lucky I've already lived here for fourteen years, or I might feel unwelcome.

I cannot comment on this company, but we did put upvc sash windows some years a- we replaced a full set of aluminium louvre style windows. We are very pleased we did - double glazed, no draft, secure, open and shut with ease, no upkeep . . . and and you would have to look fairly closely to spot they were not wooden.

Well the ones I inherited once went yellow pretty soon and ended up looking really cheap and nasty but each to there own.

I think things have moved on a bit - there's certainly no sign of yellowing about 10 years on.
