Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Following on from the launch on 9th of July of its new Skills Academy, UK Music has confirmed details of its latest rehearsal space, part of the cross-sector trade body's nationwide initiative to open music rehearsal rooms in deprived urban and rural areas. There are now fourteen such spaces around the country.

The latest, in Tottenham, is unique, however, in that it has been made possible via funding from the record industry and a local council, rather than central government. The Beggars Group has supported the launch of the latest rehearsal space, while Haringey Council will fund its operations moving forward.

The North London borough has been chosen because of the way it was affected by the summer riots just under two years ago; though, by happy coincidence, it's also the birthplace of Beggars' most famous artist of recent years, Adele.

Welcoming the initiative, local MP David Lammy told CMU: "This new rehearsal space in Tottenham is a fantastic way of bringing the community together and helping to develop our new music stars of tomorrow. It also shows the music industry has a commitment to invest in talented kids from this area, which has produced an array of stars ranging from Chipmunk to Adele".

Meanwhile Beggars CEO Paul Redding added: "By giving young people a safe environment to write, produce, perform and develop their music skills we hope we can help in some small way to rebuild a community that was badly affected by events a couple of summers ago".
