Trees of Harringay: Acacia Dealbata (Silver Wattle) in Pemberton Road in blossom

Make sure you make a little detour this week to visit the glorious Acacia Dealbata aka Silver Wattle in Pemberton Road near the school this week as it is in blossom.

It smells divine and its stunning yellow flowers are lighting up these grey days.

Beautiful.

This fabulous tree inspired us to try planting one in our garden three years ago.  The first one we bought was killed by freezing cold weather.  The second one, after more careful nurturing, was vandalised by my four year old visiting grandson who wanted the canes that were meant to keep it safe. We then bought a more mature example and planted it last Autumn.  For the coldest days of the winter we had a bag over its head which seems to have ensured its survival.  It has just a few little yellow flowers about to burst out and we have hopes that in future years it will justify our persistence.
