Trees Fairland's Park being killed/removed
Two healthy cherry trees were recently cut down in Fairland's park, and I see today that the chainsaws are out again and that further cherry trees have been severely pruned, possibly to the point where they will die.
I find this extremely frustrating and also depressing, especially because these trees are / were once home to numerous birds and insects and they also protected the children's playing area from the excessive and dangerous local air pollution.
Does anyone know if the council have any intention of replacing the two trees they removed? And can anyone tell me who to contact at the council regarding this?

Hi Alice
I received your email about Fairland Park and will follow up on all the issues you raise. I do agree Fairland needs some attention. My hunch is that it gets a bit lost between Finsbury Park and Ducketts Common so we do need to give it some particular attention.
I will keep you posted on progress. It might take a while since Member Enquiries can take up to ten days.

It looks to me like the trees may have been removed at the request of the householder (or the householder's surveyor) next to whose house they were planted. The Council likes to avoid the expense of reimbursing insurance companies, so plays it safe.
No reason the trees can't be replanted further away from the house. If the council won't pay, perhaps you could crowdfund it? Happy for HoL to be used as part of your campaign platform.

Really great idea, but better to wait for the winter before transferring any trees, they really don't like being moved when they are in full growth. The bigger the tree, the less they like being moved.

Its currently in a pot, and I do worry about it becoming root bound, but happy to keep hold of it until the autumn...

Thank you, and sorry for delay, I've had a very busy week. I think I will have to ask the park warden ( if there is such a person!) first before actually planting. I'll look into it and will start with Friends of Fairland Park. Your kind offer alone brought me much cheer, so thank you again. If you really are happy to keep until autumn, then maybe I should collect then, although I could also store it here, if you prefer. Just let me know if you want it collected now, I am can come and pick it up. Otherwise I will get back in touch at the end of the summer, or after I have had a response from the council.
