Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Just wondered what people thought of the meeting last night? Do you think it will prove to be productive? I personally felt that we should have continued without the workshops as time was limited. I was disapointed the guy representing Haringey cycling campaign didnt get a chance to speak and neither did the two guys from Arriva. AND the fact that TFL didnt bother to attend. AND that the traders walked out.

How were the workshops? Was there time for a discussion after? Should we have another meeting?

"A change of political administration next year will really get things moving" - do you honestly think that will make any difference at all? Mainstream party politics are SO over...
Just found this great way of collaboratively and positively channelling and giving voice to our dissatisfaction and/or working together on a statement of what is is we want in a letter to the Council.

Look at this wonderful tool:

MixedInk Demo from MixedInk on Vimeo. I've set up a test topic here.

What do we think?
Looks neat - an interesting variation on the 'wiki' theme and potentially a useful way of achieving a 'collective voice'.
Oh forgot, our local bobbies will have two speed cameras for local usage, well one now after the council has lost one!
Its perfect for us, perhaps a bit too sophisticated for the council
All they'll see is a letter at the end Ruth. Only sophistication required = literacy.
I think it's worth adding to what's already been said about the way the meeting was managed that we shouldn't blame the chair.

Gina had a tough job. Running these meetings is very difficult and need the right expertise. It's probably unfair to expect our councillors to be able to do it. I think Haringey as a whole should recognise that issue and think about what it needs to put in place to ensure that all public meetings in the borough are effectively run.

In the meantime, I think we should recognise that Gina did a good job in tough circumstances and we should thank her for that.
Agree with that - though I always think Gina needs the challenge of Mario's presence and 'input' to keep her on top of her game.
:o)
Yes, despite my reservations given her own personal car habits I think she did a very good job considering the disruption caused by the traders very nasty walkout. I find the workshops childish and they annoy me because of the way they split us all up. Gina likes them because they give people who may not want to speak up in public, a voice. I don't think this is a good enough reason, at all. The workshops meant that I could not be involved in both the Wightman Rd issue and the comprehensive traffic survey at the same time.

Please Gina, next time we have some security people and no childish workshops. If you have put hours of preparation into your presentation and are prepared to get up in public and give it, you deserve more time than some space cadet in a workshop.
In my experience of Area Assembly, it's the space cadets who like to stand up and present to the full meeting. I personally, did not want to sit for another hour, while every person got up and said their little piece. By the time we had heard from all the RAs and iinterested parties, most of the people speaking had not spent hours preparing and it could easily have degenerated into rambling and repetition.

I agree that the workshops were badly organised but at the plenary it would have been possible to have a little more discussion as a full group around the themes, if the organisation had been better, thereby enabling input to discussions that you were not part of. Its not childish to work like this. What is like school is to sit in a room for 2 hours while everyone gives a little speech and then have a little summing up from the teacher (chair).

What is clear is that there were many issues in that room that could have stood a two hour meeting by themselves and let us hope this is the beginning of a process that addresses all them with the attention they deserve.
I really wanted to see that they heard us over our issues. I making my mind up on how I am going to vote (I usually just vote for the same party) and I wanted to see that Brian and Gina heard our concerns and I wanted to see how they reacted to them. Brian rolled out his "I'm a politician, you won't hold me to anything mate" and Gina very dispassionately said "We'll look into it".

As for Brian saying that "everybody wants to live in a quiet residential street", my street (and Wightman Rd) was a quiet residential street until the council started screwing with it so yes you are responsible.

Come on Labour party, deselect these people, they've obviously had enough of their jobs and could do with retirement.
