Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Tourist recommendations
We are doing a home exchange with some people from Barcelona and they have asked for suggestions for pubs, cafes, parks etc within walking distance(of Turnpike Lane tube) I can think of the obvious ones like the Salisbury, Downhills Park, Ally Pally, some restaurants on Green Lanes but would welcome any suggestions I may have overlooked.

Walk through Duckett's Common onto one of The Ladder roads then cross Hornsey Station. Then visit New River Village and walk to Alexandra Park/ Palace.
You could also stroll to Crouch End on another occasion and visit Highgate (you can walk through Shepherd's Hill then visit Queen's Wood and/or Highgate Wood on the way too!)
Definitely eat out at Gokyuzu too! And make sure they know that it's the 2nd best restaurant in London! (In our area!)

Thanks guys. Am compiling a list from your contributions and there are a few places I haven't been to yet so we are going to eat at one tonight and then a couple of beers in the Salisbury! Not so sure about Crouch End as I have become a bit of an inverted snob and just find it a bit too posh and pricey.

Last nights Standard listed a few local haunts under the banner "Street Foods in Hottenham (and Newisham)" inc Tottenham Greem Market; Selale; Beavertown Brewery; Soul Food Sisters Supper Club.
We often have visitors from Europe and the many and varied parts of the local area are equally impressive. The fact that GL/ Seven Sisters does not feature in guide books makes the good quality but cheap food in our local restaurants an excellent surprise to visitors. Just prepare them for the portion sizes.
As many have alluded to it is an area that is walkable, but with excellent bus routes to some great places. I recommend the Geffyre Museum as a must see.

I would suggest Karamel in Caxton Road, Wood Green which stages jazz and other musical evenings. It's also a great place to eat.
Alongside is Chocolate Factory (In the Cultural Quarter) with the acclaimed Mosaica Restaurant .
And the Big Green Bookshop which hosts events such as comedy, book launches/promotions and is worth a visit.
Portuguese cafés, Marios in Lordship Lane and Marina opposite Bruce Castle.

Karamel restaurant is in 4,Coburg Road and not Caxton Road. And yes there is jazz and other style of music normally on Wednesday nights and it's free. It's a lovely place and the food is very nice.

And Park Theatre is great, easy to get to from Turnpike Lane, varied programme plus SO much cheaper and easier to get tickets than the West End.

We get a lot of visitors, mostly American & European & they all love Lordship Rec. They also (strangely) like Wood Green High road. Primark and TKMaxx might be the draw there, I really don't know.

You could suggest Hampstead Heath, it's only a few stops on the overground line from Harringay Green Lanes. Not sure if you've already thought of it but I always tell people about the tapas place on Wightman Rd, although I haven't been for a while so don't know if it's still any good.

Not within walking distance, but many moons ago we crowdsourced some suggestions for days out on public transport- got some ace suggestions *shameless plug for old but sort of related thread
