Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

FOR Haringey's 2025 hire of Finsbury Park to their big corporate customers, the council continues with their normalising, Post-Truth signage.

With council support, the Events Team pretend that everything is as usual.

In his 1984 masterpiece, George Orwell noted the Party's three slogans. We can add a fourth:

  • WAR IS PEACE
  • FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
  • IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
  • ALL PARK FACILITIES OPEN AS USUAL

The only period of the year when the council deploys their NewSpeak signage—appropriately enough—is when the park is not open as usual and not all park facilities are available.

Not far from the cafe I also took this shot of an informal and unauthorised note on Festival Republic's steel wall. The Municipal Ministry of Truth need to review this with Trump-Speed. Members of the public could be led to believe that they are excluded from part of the park:
.

Although this pretence of normality is likely to have been an Events Team production, ultimate culpability lies with the leader of the council, whose Cabinet responsibilities include "communications". Cllr Peray Ahmet is also a big supporter of the park hires and a fan of Grime music.

NOT all residents are fooled by Haringey Council's claims ~

Photographed below Festival Republic's "Bone Yard"—near the east side of the Oxford Road bridge—by a concerned resident and sent to me.

  • The half that remains open is dominated by the noise of the council's corporate customer.
  • The children's playgrounds are surrounded by Festival Republic's 10-foot high steel walls and are patrolled by private security guards for reasons of client revenue-protection.
  • Unsurprisingly, playground patronage on a hot day in summer appears to be down.
  • Equally unsurprisingly, according to the council everything is as usual and normal.
  • As a neighbour says, "one cannot shame the shameless".

.

I'm sure the councillors will be taking their families to the Park this weekend to use all the facilities as normal won't they?!
