Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Theft of items shipped via Hermes and apparent insurance scam

I'm interested to know if anyone else has had anything like the experience I have had of an item entrusted to Hermes being stolen en route (the package being opened and then resealed and delivered empty); or of having insured an item and having it stolen (or I suppose damaged), and then finding that it is listed elsewhere on Hermes' website (but not on the site where you place an order and take out insurance)  as not 'compensatable', with the effect that Hermes accepts the insurance fee but does not pay the insured sum.

In my case the result is that I have been robbed in circumstances that the automated Met police reporting system does not allow me to report, and denied compensation for something insured in good faith.

It would seem that anyone with access to items in Hermes' care, which they know are not compensatable, can steal them with with confidence, since Hermes has no incentive to investigate it.

Been a number of reports about Hermes parcels , reported to have been stolen. As drivers do not waited for front door is opened before leaving

On other forum Boards

It seem Hermes drivers are not employees, but work on less than a £1.00 per package deliver scheme. Which Hermes has stated once it leaves their premises. They denie all knowledge / acceptance

Joys of not being able to choose carriers with most Mail Order Firms

Might be reason Royal Mail are reporting to start Sunday parcel deliveries

Thanks Bob, that's interesting and helpful. There is a fight to be fought on this.

You probably have thought of contacting BBC (or other) programmes like You and Yours or Money Box? I think I heard something last week about the courier or insurance not compensating for a mirror broken in transit (due to small print not apparent at the time)

If many people report similar things, it may turn into an item they pursue. Frustrating to hear about the police system though.

Thanks Alyson, yes I have written to You and Yours. If they dont pursue it I will try to think of other ways to try to get some attention to the issue. My impression of moneybox live is that thay are not into scams but more giving advice on issues, but perhaps I am wrong. All suggestions are very welcome however.

Interesting issue, delivery driver tried to drop off a packet / parcel for next door. But they have moved away, with No forwarding address. Upstairs flat, rejected it. But fellow of moved away person. Saw the driver and went after driver and got item off driver ? . He just told driver it was his women's and driver gave it to him. Was told it was a Amazon delivery

Issue with most Mail Order Houses, they use the cheapest method for deliveries. and you Only get what you pay for

Have you spoke or been in touch with Supplier ? . As sure they are the one liable

Do they have a Facebook page, that allows comments ?

Thanks, yes i've complained and been denied compensation. From what you say it must be a widespread problem and needs regulation and enforcement.

Interesting thread. I have had many deliveries by Hermes and no trouble so far. Good to be aware. Thanks for the warning.

I am presently attempting to get compensation for a "lost" item - pro tripod and flight case worth at least £900 - picked up by DPD for evaluation and sale to Park Cameras (Park Cameras requested this method of delivery to them and arranged it.) It went up to the Hinkley hub run by DPD but thereafter disappeared. As Park Cameras have the account with DPD they only have a £100 claim on any item undelivered apparently and as I'm not the account holder I cannot get compensation. After several emails I wrote to the CEO of Park Cameras but no reply ..it's a month now... any suggestions?

I don't know what the payment circumstances are but sometimes if you've paid using a credit card you can have some recourse. I don't know if this helps...?

Thanks for replying..but no I didn't pay for the pickup/delivery to Park as it was their account and they had wanted to pick up my tripod and case by this method which I was selling to them. It's the reverse. So as my items were in their "custody" and their preferred route for delivery to them ...they are not considering the true evaluation of the items much reduced from a new purchase £1400 + case at £300.

And no reply makes me think they are not a good company to do business with. Their turnover last year was £25million at HMRC!
