Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
The south-central wards swung it for the Greens, but why did people vote as they did?
Above is Haringey's own election 2026 results map with info added from yours truly on the 'hung' wards.
I know in the broad sweep of things why the vote went the way it did nationally, but why did people in Harringay and more widely in Haringey vote the way they did?
Yesterday's results matter. The day may come to be seen as a watershed day for the nation. So, I ask in a genuine sense of enquiry and I'd be particularly interested to hear first hand how people made their choices this year.

Whatever the reasons (we'll hopefully get some interesting polling), I'd bet none of those voting Green did so with the hope of Wes 'Pet Shop Boy' Streeting moving into No.10. Unwelcome aftershocks.

He was accused of arson on a pet shop. When asked about it he chose to say there was no conviction due to a lack of evidence.

Dick, unfortunately lots of young adults (and older people, and families) can barely afford to rent, let alone buy, a property in London, and further afield. Plus Landlords often require a guarantor who must be a UK homeowner with an income of 30 times the monthly rental, confirmation from employers, evidence of savings etc

And as for YA applying for jobs locally - don't get me started!

Angela, I have no doubt that current house prices (both to buy and to rent) present dispiriting obstacles to many people who need somewhere to live – and this is a big enough topic to change voting patterns all by itself. Nevertheless, the changing character of the local population over three decades or so has brought with it improvements which I find pleasing. As to the housing market, I wish a structural change could be found which would eliminate the regrettable position that buying property is a safer way to protect and grow wealth than by devoting it to productive economic activity. Something is clearly wrong when the cost of building a 100sqm house might be, say, £600K but its market value would be over £1M.

When's the last time, Eric Easter, that you volunteered and took part in a public election campaign?
Whether Greens, LibDems or Labour supporters, I've seen candidates and Party volunteers walking up and down in our streets helping to keep our democracy alive.
Credit as well to Zack Polanski for bringing new challenging ideas, and livening up the election process.
Credit now, to Catherine West for having the courage to try to wake up the Labour Leadership issue. Is there anyone who doubts that Starmer's total lack of apparent sparkle is a significant factor in Labour's loss of thousands of Council seats?

A few years ago my eldest child, who was 16 or 17, wanted to become an active member of the Labour party and attended one or two meetings, one of which was to discuss Haringey's/Harringay's Labour's manifesto
Her presence as a first time attendee, especially as a young adult , was ignored by almost everyone else, and she was taken aback by the proposed manifesto statements
Eg, the first 2 items on the declaration were - Haringey Labour is a nuclear free zone and anti racist. One of of which is outdated and one of which is, or should be, a given
Tbf, a couple of other attendees tried to encourage her to come to other events/meetings but disillusionment had already set in
