So far we have 60 signatures. But we need more. The aim is not to harass people or stop people watching TV (god forbid) but to find a solution that stops this ugly forest being the first thing people see when they enter Harringay.
Please sign it if you would like it gone. Thanks.

The wording of the petition reads: Take action to remove the hundreds of satellite dishes fixed to the buildings on Harringay Green Lanes.
It says nothing of positioning them in less 'unsightly' areas or of only taking down the ones no longer in use. So I take it at face value.
And to be honest, a petition should be as clear as possible about its demands so as not to be misconstrued. Wonder how many more people might have signed if the various qualifications offered here had been included in a concise final sentence?
Who said it had to be a heavy-handed enforcement matter? I'm sure many of the 'offenders' themselves would be happily rid of old dishes and other bits of junk if they were given an incentive to do it - maybe a discount on the removal cost or some other way to make the process easier?
There are always arguments for where money could be better spent. Personally, I think that the appearance of an area has a massive impact on the morale and mental wellbeing of those in it (whether affluent or not), and that clutter of any form including dishes DOES detract from that - but obviously that's not everyone's view.
I agree with you on the second point, which is why I suggested that Richard hand this over to someone involved in the current street improvements programme. As others have said it just seems nonsensical to spend however much on that project without taking this comparatively minor issue into account.
I don't like the term 'no brainer', but it's on the tip of my tongue right now...
Just a small point Alex. A lot of money is being spent along some of GL to improve the environment, including vastly subsidised new signs for shop owners. If we can tidy the space above the shop signs up, should that not be something to aim for if it can be done cost effectively. I guess the first issue is to see what effort is required, and the petition is a good way of starting that process. The council are best placed to look at this, not us as individuals, and a petition to demonstrate that the community is backing this idea is one way of helping the council work out what its priorities should be in this space.
The point about removal of satellite dishes was part of my feedback when the original consultation for the GL improvements was run, sad it was not picked out as part of that process.
Thanks Therese. Yes that could be the solution.

The Almighty has never been slow about harassing idle or idol people. I agree with Richard. It's time for God or even god to show Her hand in this matter and forbid all TV watching. In Nilgun's absence, though, will She be able to enforce Her Holy Will?
