Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Shopping city it's like Marmite. They may have bulldozed Harringay for progress, it was considered.

It would have been like the estate opposite Clissold undergoing demolition.

Kind of like Max Lock on protein drinks and steroids. He master planned England's first major post war social housing scheme, archives are kept at the Max Lock Institute, Westminster University.

Happy Birthday Wood Green Mall:

Councilor alert, buildings last a longer than your lifetime, and its your legacy for future generations, how do you want to be remembered?

Guy de Maupassant hated the newly built Eiffel Tower, when asked why he always used the cafe underneath it he replied ''it's the only place in Paris where I can't see it ''.

How many original shopkeepers left?, the Greek grocer that looks like Manuel (Fawlty Towers) in the market hall. I remember his shop before the centre officially opened.

Addendum - I've just found a solid wooden John Collier clothes hanger in my wardrobe, I think I'll stick it on ebay.

This should bring back happy memories Xavier

I was primed to sing along with them "John Collier, John Collier, the window to watch!", but not on that advert - thank you anyway.

That was the one I was after Gordon. You Tube lets you down sometimes.
Do we see a young Trevor Brooking towards the end?

Yes indeed, thanks, I've got the tune on a floppy 45, I might sell it with the hanger.

I seem to remember a co-op in Shopping City in 1981, two floors between WHS and Lymington Avenue.   WHS is probably the only survivor from 1981 and still in its original position/unit.

Didn't WHS have two floors for a while? I know Boots did originally.

I miss the department store, Pearsons. Primark is just not as useful.

Yes to both, Maddy. And Pearsons' predecessor was D H Evans, later renamed House of Fraser.

If you walk into a shop these days to look at or for something, shoes for example, they'll tell you most of their stock is on-line. There are a few businesses within SS that are still useful to visit in person but they could easily move into the increasing number of empty units on the high street. SS could then be demolished and morph into that Heartlands housing scheme the council keeps talking about.
