Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Thank you everyone for making the first day of Harringay Market one of the best days of my wonderful life.

All you lovely people who came down to support us despite the rain: you are almost as amazing as me!!!

A big thank you to Antonia, Hugh and Matt for all your help, I couldn't have done it without you!

From next week there will be a few new stalls who'll be selling fruit and veg and meat too, so hopefully we'll see you again soon.
Keep an eye on our website: www.harringaymarket.co.uk for more updates.

Thank you Harringay!

Jessica

Well done for getting this off the ground Jessica. It's a fantastic asset for the community.

Hear, hear.

I came home with some great venison burgers, goats cheese, soda bread and a couple of potted herbs, delicious! A delicatessen selling olives, artichoke hearts, bell peppers, etc would be a great addition for next time.

Jessica

We bought cod (just had it for dinner - delicious) and smoked haddock. Very inexpensive for the quality. I bought coffees, of course. Some Jack Daniels/chilli jam stuff, cards and labels, and eggs. I was about to buy some cheese when the heavens opened...

I ate some of the Sri Lankan food, and was going to buy some chicken katsu curry (though in the event the rain sent us home before I got the chance). Next time I will...

We're happy to support the market, but some more/new traders (especially food) will help sustain our interest in the longer term - after a few weeks we will need a reason to keep coming back.

Likewise your traders will no doubt expect regular custom and good footfall to keep them coming back.

Are you going to be doing a leaflet drop? We live on the Ladder and I was expecting a flyer to come through my door. But it never did. My neighbours (who don't use HoL) didn't know about the market.

I''d certainly hate to see this not be a success - I agree it's great for Harringay; will you be getting word about other than here on HoL and via the market website? I'm happy to link to it and mention it on my supper club website (I might even do a dinner in the near future using only produce bought at the market - a truly Harringay supper).

Steve, Antonia K, who makes videos and stuff for HoL has been helping Jessica out with PR pro-bono. There's been some good publicity in London media like the Londonist (Was it also Time Out, Jessica?).

Locally, the Journal came along on Saturday, but they  only sell just over 1,000 copies a week in the west of the borough. Locally, HoL has the best reach, getting to 15 - 20,000 uniques (different people) each month.

Jessica also did old fashioned leafleting and wanted to put up ad banners was was apparently told by the Council that she couldn't do so.

Keep it up Jessica. I was so impressed with the first day of Harringay Market. I heard loads of good feedback via parents at the school.

I don't mind leafletting my road for you Jessica if you can get me some flyers.

Jessica

I'll leaflet my road (on Saturday) if you want to drop off some flyers? Message me/I'll message you to arrange...

There's been a few blog posts about the market but I particularly enjoyed this one by Kay Tea 's Cakes about her first market experience...(shockingly I missed the lemon drizzle or it might not all have been there for someone to buy for their tea party)

Well done on getting the first market out there.

The school venue with play equipment is good as well - kids can play whilst adults shop

But by the time I got there about 1.15pm a lot of stalls had sold out.

My absolutely honest customer feedback (brace yourself) is that it wasn't really worth the outing for me this time, given that I was expecting to be able to buy take-away lunch and some cakes and maybe posh bread to bring home, as I would have done from AP Farmers Market.

The truth is, I possibly spent more on travelling to Falkland Road than I did buying from traders, and not for want of trying!

But I'm sure traders will bring more next time - they didn't know what the demand would be this time?

So I will save my next visit until after the next set of reviews.

Keep up the good work!
