Someone was asserting that Tesco's wlll be closing for 6 weeks from this week.
I didn't get a chance to check it out myself due to random moped phone crime but perhaps something to do with this...

Agreed. Went to Wood Green for the 1st time in like 6 months to check out the market across from the Green Rooms - the place it's as depressing as ever.
Surely the worst Tesco this side of the one under Portcullis House in Westminster!!!
I always thought their long term aim was to wait for the flats to be built up on the old Hawes and Curtis site, which I think were slated to have a shop underneath? But maybe I was being cynical ...
The daily Charleston between Haringey's traffic wardens and Tesco's lorry drivers might end at least.
All of those shops on Green Lanes were designed to be supplied from the back but over the years the owners of the land have (presumably illegally) built over the mews in behind. In the case of the Tesco though, I'm not sure what's going on out the back on Harringay Road.
There is still access to the rear of the Tesco, but the area is used for big dump-bins for their rubbish and possibly other shop(s) next door. All the deliveries of new stock seem to be at the front, from Green Lanes, and there are frequently empty, large trolley out the front.
And as I mentioned up thread - Tesco's delivery lorries must account for a large chunk of the local enforcement officers' targets...
Interesting to know the space is still there though - I thought it had been obliterated by the "new" build on the corner.
Whatever Tesco we're planning, the sharp amongst us will notice closure date came and went. The signs announcing it had come down on Sunday and the shop was fully stocked (after days of appearing to be winding down) - the staff advised the refurb had been "cancelled" (as opposed to being postponed). I wonder why?
Seemingly the contractor who was supposed to be doing the job pulled out, so they are looking for a new one to do it. That's what the bloke at the till said anyway.
I went in last night and I wouldn't say fully stocked. They appear to have given up on the freezer section for instance, it just has beer in there now.
Quite. Maybe "about as stocked as usual" might have been better...
