As mentioned over on the GL area traffic study thread it would be interesting to gauge the level of support for the four alternative packages of changes that are being proposed for the Ladder.
So take the straw poll - here - its very short so wont take long to answer.

If you want the freedom to drive unrestricted anywhere you like, move to the country. By living in an urban area you have to accept that excessive levels of motor vehicle use are unsustainable, incompatible with a healthy environment and killing thousands of people every year.

Where is this data that states killing thousands each year that isn't based on a theoretical and unproven model?

Does air pollution actually cause 40,000 deaths every year
I suppose you could try connecting your car exhaust to your living room and leave your engine running for a few hours if you wanted more evidence?

Did you actually read the link EyeSpy?
Expert 1 says "yes, air pollution caused those [40,000] deaths."
Expert 2 says "the basic data does not say that 40,000 people have died...although statistically it is the best way of looking at it"
Expert 3 says: “The main conclusion is that many more than 29,000 individuals are affected"

That's not a constructive suggestion EyeSpy. The countryside is also polluted as nowhere these days is that far from a major road.
I (plus lots of scientists politiciand doctors etc.) don't see excessive pollution as an 'inconvenience' but a major killer and a threat to the future of the whole world. Those of you with children must be really worried about their health and what sort of world they will be living in. We have to start to change things radically to ensure there is a world for future generations.

Why can't you telecommute? That's the real issue, too many jobs are localised on one small area. spread them around the country and the issue gets resolved fairly easily. Even better if telecommuting becomes the established norm and commuting becomes the distance from upstairs to downstairs.
