Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

There seems to be a new kid with a can of spray paint in town making a right bloody mess in the Passage with his/her talentless blue tagging. I am reporting what I see around where I am, but please report any instances of graffiti as soon as you spot them via the Report a Problem page on the council website.

In my experience, the graffiti removal people are excellent and usually pretty prompt at getting things removed so its worth a quick mail or if you're out with your mobile you can phone 020 8885 7700 or email a picture to enquiries.haringey@veolia.co.uk

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for answering.

I would like to know about the conditions of the external structure but also the living condotions inside. I am aware that one business owner who also owns and rents out the property above his shop is a slum landlord.

Personally  these people should have have as little voice as possible. Being represented through the traders association and the GLSG gives this rogue landlord a lot of power. That worries me.

Cheers

I think I read that following the recent masonry incident the Council have done a visual survey of all the buildings (between the bridge and St Ann's, I guess) and that one other building needed emergency repairs.  Also that they are going to leaflet all the buildings.

BTW, I am unlikely to get detailed information via GLSG on who owns what, more a general indication of the level of trader ownership.

You are also very unlikely to get any information about the inside of the accomodation as they are private dwellings.  Conducting a survey would be very expensive and the cost probably couldn't be justified.

I wouldn't be too worried about one rogue landload belonging to the trader's association (if he/she does).  He is one voice among many, and has no more power to make policy than a member of a residents association.

Thanks Geoff.

I know there is one rogue landlord my cocern is that there could be many. and that they have more say over what happens to my local community than I

For some comments on buildings issue, see the LCSP post today.

John,

I see you are certainly a man of opinions, especially of everyone else's actions.

Yet you seem to spend your life on here nit picking.

I would klike to know what you do and what you have done that you are willing to hold up to public scrutiny or are you one of theose people who stands behind the big boy sniping insults and runs away at the first sign of trouble?

Hmmm.. I've met Alan and Zena socially. I like them.

I use my real name and the police and the Labour party know where I live.

I have lived here for 11 years in March, and been an active member of this site for four years. I like to think I am an engaged member of the local community and I've made a lot of friends here (enemies too!).

I cannot think of a better example of the powerful sticking it to the residents than the banner on the Harringay railway station bridge. Can you? It has everything; unwanted advertising, links with local shopkeepers, a secretive council backed group and a local residents association that seem to back anything the council wants as long as they get to keep their bollards.

I would say that the bridge banner and the fact that the council keep trying to rename us "Green Lanes" are the two single biggest things that interest me in the community now that I have pushed most of the local HGV traffic off onto other roads.

Nit picking? Not half, my love.

PS I am a computer programmer... scary huh?
