Local celebrity Peter Rabbit who has been a welcome fixture outside the library on Quernmore Road, greeting library patrons on their way in, was discovered in pieces today.
In a statement released by the Friends of SG&H Library, it appears that Peter can no longer be displayed outside:
Sad news. Much loved Mr Rabbit was in an accident. Hit & run. Thanks to all the first responders. All bits rescued. He’s now in emergency care. Doctors say that, due to his constitution (plaster), he may never be able to live outside again."
Library users have expressed shock and sadness at the news, with some expressing a wish to see a replacement.
Peter lost an ear last year but it was restored to him and he was able to return to take pride of place in the library front garden.
This time, however, we will have to bid a fond farewell to Quernmore Road's cutest celebrity rabbit because, even if he is repaired, he will be too fragile to remain outdoors.

Given how many millions of children (and adult readers to youngsters) have been enthused by Peter Rabbit and Alice in Wonderland's The March Hare, I do hope that our long-eared friend can have a safe berth within the Library in the future.
Thank you Peter* for persevering!
