Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Street lighting in Finsbury Park
I was delighted when they put the street lights in Finsbury Park so in the winter I could still cycle home through the park when it was dark. There were so many more cyclists and walkers and it felt safe.
Now when I cycle through from the South Gate up towards Endymion Rd exit there are lights up to the tennis courts then they go off and they don’t come on again until the cafe - leaving a fairly long stretch of pitch black. I asked on the council website for them to fix the lights. They said they had but the lights are still off. Does anybody know if this is a cost cutting exercise?

Bob, in the last hour, I walked around Finsbury Park in the dark.
I'm pleased to report that all-but-one of the many lamps are working. i.e. in a stretch several hundred metres long, between the Endymion Road entrance and the southern end.
These may have been fixed some days ago but in any event, it appears that Cllr. Zena Brabazon's chasing of the-powers-that-be has borne fruit, or in this case, light.

"Park", if neither Zena nor the Cabinet Member for "parks and green spaces" (Emily Arkell) is your local representative, then I suggest contacting your local Ward councillor.
If Cllr. Arkell continues to stonewall, then I invite you to consider complaining to Councillor Elin Weston who is the Labour Group Chief Whip.

At around 7:30 AM in darkness this morning I counted 44 lampposts in Finsbury Park. That total included several that were off to the side of the main carriageway lighting.
Of these, 43 were lit. The sole dud is the one closest to the Richard Hope Play Space.
Events Team bosses—who dominate changes in our park—are likely to regard this as more than good enough for local residents and park-users.
This lighting benefits only the general public and has no relevance to the council's paying, corporate customers during their "Events Season". Or any other time. Cllr Arkell may share such a cynical view.
