Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I have recently joined as a member and I believe I am getting bogus emails via this site. Both of them say the following:

I was impressed when i saw your profile at (www.harringayonline.com) and i will like you to email me back to my inbox (I have hidden this address) so that i can send you my pictur...

With it are links to Harringay online. There are no comments made by either women nor are they members. Has anyone else had this?

One more and I shall have to unsubscribe.

Hi Gill
I have had what seems to be the same e-mail? and was wondering how it arrived in my inboxwithout appearing
on my page, my friend has had one also??.
Hi Gill,

As Liz says, from time time to time we get hit by spammers. It seems to go in waves. Since it's been a little annoying recently I pulled up the drawbridge before I went to bed last night (meaning no one can join without approval) since it's night time that the mad things do their work. I shall take it down again this morning because we need to get the balance right - too many barriers to entry and new members won't join - too little protection for existing members and they'll leave.

We work hard to get it right and Liz has been fantastic being a vigilant guard for us all over the past week.

By the way, the reason that the spammers don't appear to be members is because we've taken them down before you get to them

Having been around the internet a little for a few years now, I'm used to these spammers and can quickly recognise from the first line of a mail when something in my in box is spam. I now see it as a bit like having the local pizza place stuff leaflets through my letter box. I'd rather they didn't but they're harmless and I can just throw them away.

Do remember with these spammers, they're as indiscriminate as the pizza leaflets. They're not targeting you; they just randomly pick people and put an electronic leaflet through your "door". And they can never get your email address. So, please don't let them win and drive you away from what we hope is a valuable community resource.
This sort of thing happens from time to time on all forums . Spammers join and send messages. I remember seeing this a couple of days ago and I think Hugh or Liz moved very quickly to cancel their membership.
Such messages are obviously not to be trusted and of course you should not reply to them.
First of all, our apologies if the emails are causing you concern. In the last couple of days, we have had a couple of aggressive spammers join the site in the early hours and leave the messages you describe on profiles. As soon as we are aware of the situation, the spammer is banned from the site and their content disappears which is why there is nothing on your page when you investigate. You can control what emails come from the site via the Settings (see the box in the top right hand corner of the page) > email path , so that you are not troubled by notifications in your inbox. There is a how to guide on this page
These things seem to happen from time to time despite our security measures and we do our best to protect the site and you from them but being a community site we are not on the site 24/7 and sometimes they slip past us. As John says, all sites can be bothered by spam from time to time but that does not make it any less of a pain. Please accept our apologies and please take up our suggestion to alter your email settings to prevent you being troubled in this way again.
and you mean to say you haven't got a Spam alarm next to your bed, ready to ring during the peaceful hours..

A tip: add that you're gay on to your profile and they will stop being sent.. I never get any -lol
I administer the 9,500-strong Facebook Group "Save Ally Pally". In recent weeks it has attracted spammers now and again, ostensibly attractive women who put up links to other sites and populate the photos section with photos of themselves with links to Adult sites. Removing this garbage (which is time-consuming and a royal pain) is just one of the overheads of administering an internet forum these days.
But what if I want a nice Russian bride?
Then GO TO RUSSIA!
Tee Hee
The idiot who sends these things obviously has been reading our comments..

must be another member.. shall we take a guess?

The clue is, I think, in the avatar...
Eh?

Drawbridge is up again. Yawn.

And apologies to the dozen or so members who just heard from Roseambou.
My Russian sister-in-law on Falkland is taking legal advice.

But why don't I ever get any of these enticing offers? Ageism, I guess.

But who is the promiscuous rosemabou? Ah, she's been hanged or drawbridged.
