Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi all,

I came home from work today to discover that some delightful person has stolen one of my window boxes. They were in such a hurry that they left the feet.

Bolt it down or lose it!

Yes, same happened here last week. Charming.

Who does this kind of thing!

People who then sell them on at boot fairs.

If your window cill is at waist height of below, window boxes will be at risk. You can buy steel wire security devices. Use then to link several window boxes or attach each to a heavy brick That's assuming that you don't want to drill into your nice Victorian masonry.

You just need enough to put people off. These are opportunistic thieves not great train robbers. My guess is that these devices will crear a sufficient level of additional danger of being caught and of damaging the item of desire and will put most pot plant thieves off.

Worth a try.

Someone has been nicking one of the three pints of milk left on my doorstep almost every delivery day for the past four weeks.  Only slightly annoying but immensely intriguing.  Blue Tits?

Same thing happened to us recently, but they took both pints. If you let the milkman know, he will place them somewhere more discreet.

There is of course, the slight chance he has been getting your order wrong, which has also happened to us in the past.

My thought too Nick, but last week I opened the curtains at stupid o’clock in the morning and saw three pints being delivered.  Remembered to bring in the milk at 8 and only two bottles.  I predict a vigilante Ladder milk group forming,

Micheal, do I detect a little lactose intolerance??

Mind you, I'd be efffing furious.

I’m strictly skimmed Andy

Someone had a go at mine a couple of weeks back but they are wooden and held together by string and nails and screwed into the windowsill so all they succeeded in doing was breaking off bits of the plant and scattering soil everywhere. I know it was humans (and not a squirrel digging) because they moved the bin out of the way, leaving it in front of my door (unless the squirrels have got really big during lockdown).

As I said on a different thread, I confronted a bloke in my front garden a while back who had been going up and down our street, going into every garden. He had his eye on some pots I had ready for planting and I'm pretty sure if I hadn't have been quick to go outside and very firm in my "No they are not going spare", he wouldn't have bothered checking with me! I did report him to the police via the online form ( I usually just shout at people and leave it at that) as it was full lockdown and lots of people were getting packages etc delivered and also because my neighbour reckoned he was also looking through windows etc.

Stealing milk from a doorstep is a crime ( a friend of mine got arrested for it as a teenager and went to court - she used to help herself after all nighters!) although you might feel its too much bother to file a report to the police. I'll be even quicker to get my pints inside from now on! And keep my eyes open...

I wondered if the milk thief was a light sleeper - it started around the time the milkman changed from an electric milkfloat which is near silent to something I presume is larger with a diesel engine. Thereby alerting the thief to the arrival of their free pints.
