I followed the protest last night on my bicycle from the Salisbury north. It was very lightly policed, stretched all the way from Allison Rd to Turnpike Lane and was full o families chanting: "Turkey is, Terrorist State!". The behaviour of drivers was disgusting but typical. Using their vehicles to pretend to ram protesters in an effort to turn into the ladder, tooting and shouting out their windows and generally behaving like they had a right to the road (they don't). I'm not surprised someone's car got a few thumps from people.

Oh Dear. People whose families are being bombed, journalists being gaoled, Politicians arrested, free speech denied, why oh why can't they just go away somewhere else....

As a local resident and business owner, I have to say I agree with this. Often we don't know what they're protesting, and on occasion neither do the Turkish businesses that occupy the shops each side of ours.

There are frequent protests outside the Turkish Embassy in Belgrave Square. There was what looked like a fairly permanent presence when I walked by last week.
The Green Lanes demos were getting media coverage in Turkey until the government recently shut down a large number of TV stations and newspapers.

OK then there is a case , they'll have to put it on youtube if that's not been blocked too.
I never know what these demos are about as they are targeted entirely at Turkish speakers/readers. As both 'sides' from Turkey live in the area there's no quick way of knowing the POV of the marchers.
On the linked issue of breaking out of our own echo chambers, the linked article here has useful things to say, though it's scary reading.[HoL keeps losing my posts as I type them and won't make proper links, is it just me?]

Unfortunately it doesn't take much to get these people a tad 'hot under the collar' shall we say.
There is no place for these demonstrations on Green Lanes. They should only be allowed static demo's at the very most - they already have these at Manor House gate. I find marching down this shopping street an act of agression in itself. It feels very intimidating.

I personally find them very moving - people getting out on the street to make their voices heard. Of course, I'm of the generation that was thrilled to see the Aldermaston marches.

I hate Illinois Nazis
It was a very peaceful protest compared to most and Turkey is trying to wipe them from the middle east so I think they're entitled.
