It's a fashion thing. The usual procedure is to fit a big-bore aftermarket silencer. It doesn't do a lot for the performance but is designed to resonate, sound louder and enlarge the penis.
What is silly is motorbikes sitting at lights blipping the throttle. If they can't keep the engine running without doing that they should get it tuned up
I agree John. However as a former biker, I think most of the blipping is done by Harley Davidson owners as their crap bikes can't idle....unlike me
These cars seem to be driven by fashion stereotypes, they parade along the High Road in the evenings as they get echo under the Shopping City.
One thing that I have noticed is some have blue LEDs on the front which is illegal, I have even seen and heard one with a 'surpressed' siren harrassing a learner car.
Yes, it's "look at me". Another regular manifestation is high-pitched motorbikes using Endymion Road as a test track (or should that be audio session?). And yes, the abrupt throttle-revving strikes me as a deliberately aggressive act given the volume they attain.
There is a Highway Code section about not revving an engine when stationary in front of pedestrians but I doubt there's more than single-figure prosecutions for it per year.
Its is indeed fashion and it is illegal if it exceeds a set decibel level. But saying that, Green Lanes was a super street for late night bikers in the late 50s... straight but full of risk; known often as chicken runs. Who needed to go to The Ace on the A406....
