Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I often see cars/vans/trucks/buses puthering out black smoke, and occasionally so much so that it acts as a smoke screen for the offending vehicle.

I got a bit sick of this. Largely because it is such a selfish act of environmental pollution and vandalism- the offender simply leaves his/her crap behind blithely driving on and the folks behind are left to suffer the consequences. I got stuck behind one such vehicle the other day, a petrol car (actually a taxi) I guess as it was puthering out oil smoke. It was miging!

Stuff like this should surely get caught (when an MoT is done), but perhaps not for what ever reason. So, I had a look to see what you could do about it. I found this web site https://www.gov.uk/report-smoky-vehicle. Sadly this is specifically for trucks and busses. If you want to report a car or any other vehicle you need to report it to you local council.

I have emailed the enforcement team in Haringey as it was not clear on their web site who to go to, but in the mean time, does anyone eslse have an idea who to talk to?

Taxis and minicabs are regulated by TfL via what used to be called the Public Carriage Office, so that's one extra place you could register a complaint about that particular vehicle.

Thanks- I will check.

Well done the folks in the enforcement team, they called me back earlier. Impressed by the fact they did (though one would ask why I need to be impressed by something I would expect to have happened, but I should not be too much of a grump should I??).

Sadly they cannot do anything to help me unless the vehicle is stationary.

So, to the Public Carriage Office it is (I feel like I am about to be diving into some form of Victorian bureaucracy like in Little Dorritt).

Do not know what to do if you have a moving car even if this works.

The Public Carriage Office is strict and will withdraw  a licence at the drop of a hat.

Cabs and minicabs have to have an MOT every six months.
