Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I got a letter a few days back about this application (I'm guessing because I'd commented on one of the previous requests). The application states that previously approval had been granted to build a side extension on the ground and first floor levels (under ref HGY/2008/2105). In fact that's the wrong reference - that one got refused but a subsequent application the next year was granted permission. The current application is for permission to be given again, as they did not have funds to carry the work out within the timeframe given.

The current application details are here:
http://www.planningservices.haringey.gov.uk/portal/servlets/Attachm...

The reference is HGY/2013/1456.

If you're interested in the previous applications, there is a summary of the original grounds for refusal of the 2008 application here:
http://www.planningservices.haringey.gov.uk/portal/servlets/Attachm...

And the 2009 approval is here:
http://www.planningservices.haringey.gov.uk/portal/servlets/Attachm...

I'm guessing that they will get permission again, I just wanted to alert anyone in that area who might not be aware. I noticed that one of the clauses is that they remove the little booth thing which was put up illegally a number of years ago. There are also clear guidelines about hours of building work.

How does it even survive, let alone need an extension?

It seems like such a grubby s**thole, I have NO idea how they stay in business or who actually stays there.

thanks for letting us know. I walk past this place all the time and in 3 years have never seen anyone in the restaurant. it seems like a bizarre place to say the least so not sure why they need 11 more rooms??

I also walk past this place all the time. I did once see some people coming out with some suitcases. It would not surprise me if the little side booth extension did not have planning permission.

I think the planners might look for evidence that the existing hotel is being run satisfactorily, before granting permission to the current owners for more capacity.

Anyone fancy clubbing together for a brave soul with a video camera to spend a weekend here? I'm in for five quid as long as it's not me.
I think the risk of bedbugs is probably too high!

I note that a shop in Green Lanes ("The Bed Bug Kid") offers a bed-bug service at £99.

Disclosure:

I have no pecuniary interest in bed bugs.

Having read some of the trip advisor reviews, not me!

I'm sure planning don't take any account of the rationale for the expansion. Last time there was some suspicion it was to help with selling the place but I'm not aware that its on the market (not sure I'd know).

Agree it is a mystery how it keeps going.

I am sort of hoping that someone would lease the restaurant bit to make it something more attractive.  That would make the owner realise that they can do better of the premise...  Or not...

It's £50 per night for a double room. Does that put things into context ?

Not really, no.
