Has anyone noticed the increasing number of seagulls and their subsequent noise? I live on Allison Road and am increasingly finding myself woken up by their horrible squawking.
It is my understanding that a decrease in fish stocks has encouraged them to fly in land and seek food from alternative sources such as urban rubbish. I am also concerned that they are nesting on the flat roofs of nearby properties, where their colonies will increase and they’ll cause a further nuisance and possible property damage.
Has anybody else noticed this and or reported it to the council? If not, I will and report back on what they say
Thanks

Change your house name from " Sorrento " to something else
yes, I saw one take a pigeon down in mid air. We have a young baby on the way so I am also concerned for next summer.
I think you can get some sort of gel that you can paint onto flat roofs / chimneys to stop them nesting. Yes, I noticed the chicks on top of 49. I am only a few doors from there, it's no wonder I have really noticed the noise I suppose
They have very good taste. Out at the beach at Broadstairs recently my son had just taken his first bite of his croissant when .... whoosh, down came the seagull and snatched it out of his hands. My son was somewhat bemused and not a little shocked. Then noticed the gulls swirling the beach all the time, looking for targets. They nest on roofs in Bristol (see Springwatch) so no doubt London too. Hopefully they'll eat a few crows and magpies!
Hi Remy, I live off Hermitage Road near the Crusader Industrial Estate and have noticed a particular increase of the seagulls this year. They are noisy early morning and in evening. The council will do NOTHING - not allowed to, they are protected. I have reported this to the council as I feel they might be drawn to this are due to the estates and - possibly the Wasabi (sushi/fish) food units in the estate. There may be other food units there too - that is the van I see most. Fish & seagulls...... seems possible. I have asked the council to look into how the empty/waste food/parcelling is disposed off. Not expecting the council to do anything - but lets hope.
The gulls seem particularly invasive this summer. I had to go in house the other evening as they kept swooping into my patio garden. It was like a Hitchcock film.
I was just thinking this morning how noisy the gulls were. I live on Hewitt. Assumed it was a warning of bad weather at sea!
When this thread started I hadn't heard any gulls. Over the past couple of weeks I've started to notice them a lot. I don't think it's just my having been made aware of it. I'm pretty sure this is a new sound within my local sound tableau. It does make me wonder why we're witnessing this mini-invasion.
